Performing in the downstairs room at the famous Middle East club in Cambridge (well known for all of the weird college favourites), this is a video recording of a full set from the Vision Creation Newsun era. The audio is better than the video, unfortunately, but it's still very neat.
Topics: boredoms, experimental rock, bootleg, dvd
A marathon evening from the holiday season in the band's home city of Osaka. The first track, which cuts out after seventy minutes(!), is one continuous piece with lots of percussion that's made up of several Vision Creation Newsun pieces; while the second two are perhaps from another set on the evening and see things being more spacey and freeform. Good recording!

Moving on to the 1995 tour this time, one of at least two shows at Moe's - while the next night has an audio recording, the tape here has video , and a recording from the front row as well! A rare up-angle look at the band, we get great video shots of everyone, and while the audio isn't super great and there's lots of VHS fuzz, it's an amazing set to have.

Another show to ring in the new year (this one was on the actual new millennium, although whether it's 2000-12-31 or 2001-01-01 depends on if you're judging it by real time or rock'n'roll time ), an excellent recording of peak Boredoms split into two continuous sections - one with a six-piece band, one with a trio.
Topics: boredoms, experimental rock, bootleg, flac
Seizing a unique opportunity with the dawning of the new millennium (I know I know, shut up, I wasn't alive in 2000), the Japanese experimentalists decamped to perform on a beach at the southern island of Okinawa, playing through an hour-long spacey jam to a small audience in the early morning as the sun came up. Average recording.

Touring for The Great Annihilator , perhaps the most immediately accessible Swans material, this show in Belgium instead sees them performing a few songs from the mammoth Soundtracks for the Blind ahead of that album's release the next year. Good recording. Track listing: Final Sacrifice The Sound All Lined Up Lavender Your Property Yum-Yab Killers In Alcohol the Seed Helpless Child Mother/Father 1, 2, 3, 6, and 9 from Soundtracks for the Blind ; 4 from Sacrificial Cake ; 5 from Cop ; 7, 8,...

A strong audience DAT tape from the MPLS show on the Boredoms' 1999 US tour. 70 minute show, ten of which is an encore which features lots of loud, deranged screaming from Yoshimi.
Topics: boredoms, experimental rock, bootleg, flac
Boredoms performing with another very expanded lineup - the info says five drummers and fourteen guitarists - at All Tomorrow's Parties in 2012. Good recording, although it's a little quiet in parts and the disc cuts out with the last ten minutes of the show missing.
Topics: boredoms, experimental rock, bootleg, flac
An hour long set from an English show on the 2002 tour, alternating between rapid percussion and spacey wind chime soundscapes. Split into five tracks, although they don't match with the different 'songs' played.

I know of only 2 states of spaces. Either they are empty and desolate or overcrowded. Never mind! Raum had been an experimental noise rock band projekt between 1996 and 1997. This release collects all ever recorded songs. It contains the tapes: 1. "Lost tape no. 1", 1996 (titles 1 - 6); 2. "Raum lost tapes no. 2" 1997 (titles 7 - 11); 3. "Raum session no. 1" 1997 (titles 12 - 17); 4. "Letters from a dead man" 1997? (titles 18 - 21).

One of the last tours under the Boredoms name for a while, but venturing off further into ambient chiming sounds over the course of an hour in Italy.
Topics: boredoms, experimental rock, bootleg, flac
Unsurprisingly, a band as experimental and well loved as Boredoms are a regular at All Tomorrow's Parties festivals, and this partial set (cutting out 20 minutes into the second 'song') captures them at their spaciest. Very good recording, except with some small CDR glitches.
Topics: boredoms, experimental rock, bootleg, flac
Just before embarking on the first half of Woodstock 94, Boredoms made a half-hour appearance on eclectic Californian student radio station KXLU to perform four tracks of their weird, screwball noise before an interview that really should have had a Japanese interpreter involved.
Topics: boredoms, experimental rock, bootleg, flac
Later in the Boredoms career, a few months before their famous 77 Boa Drum performance; a good if overdriven recording of an hour long set from Italy.
Topics: boredoms, experimental rock, bootleg, flac
A very good audience recording from a longer show on the 1999 North American tour, the night after a set from Vancouver. Lots of percussive spacey-ness at this set, really enjoyable.
Topics: boredoms, experimental rock, bootleg, flac
Continuing on the 1993 Boredoms tour through North America, this DVD from the Buffalo show is fascinating because it's actually filmed on stage, with lots of close ups and zooms on all of the members bouncing around off each other. Unfortunately there's a few cuts where the taper gets hit, with the occasional syncing problems and VHS issues - and the fact that it's split up into so many smaller portions is a big pain for non-DVD viewing - but it's a must-have for your Boredoms collection.
Topics: boredoms, experimental rock, bootleg, flac
Yamataka Eye's pet project, Boredoms are perhaps the most loved of all Japanese experimental rockers and certainly the most popular - they somehow managed main stage at Lollapalooza 94, sharing the day with L7, the Breeders, Beastie Boys, and the Smashing Pumpkins. This set from a 1995 tour in the United States is part of a transitional period, when they began to move away from their out-and-out grinding noise and into a more spacey, krautrock groove, hints of which you can see here. Very...

The DuMaurier Jazz Festival might seem like an odd fit for a band whose frontman famously had a bulldozer drive through a club wall, but then again jazz has always been about breaking the rules and casting out on your own. In that case, the Boredoms are suited perfectly, with a continuous sit that's settled into the dreamy percussive vogue of their late 90s work. Three tracks have been identified on this tape, three have not (including the encore track 6); pretty good recording.
Topics: boredoms, experimental rock, bootleg, flac
A recording from the short 2008 tour of the United States, at which point the band were perhaps at their most percussive. Track splits, but no track names - there's an encore after track 10 though.
Topics: boredoms, experimental rock, bootleg, flac
The earliest Boredoms live recording I've found so far (beating about the Buffalo show mentioned in the .txt by a week), and it captures the band pre-'fame' at their most outlandish and noisy, jumping and screaming all over the stage as their weird noise-punk jams rock out for 35 minutes. VHS-sourced video filmed from the back of the venue on a tripod; largely dark video but has a lot of good zooms.
Topics: boredoms, experimental rock, bootleg, dvd
A great, lengthy setlist from the modern day Boredoms outfit - four musicians, all contributing to a host of instruments over a percussive, spacey 80 minutes (followed by a twenty minute encore). Average recording that sounds somewhat distant.

For the second time in three years, Sonic Youth performed at the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle and played through a set of unreleased instrumentals - previously from A Thousand Leaves , this time from NYC Ghosts & Flowers . Unlike their secret show in New York two weeks before, they bring in one other track, the slow and hypnotic 'She Is Not Alone' from their self-titled EP. Great recording. (Edited 2021-11-02 to add in a missing song.) A Houston set from black midi's lengthy 2021 US tour (playing lots of shows to make up for lost time, perhaps?), reasonable audio quality but a bit bass heavy. A shorter set than the previous show uploaded, still with a majority of unreleased songs; the real gem is the short 'opening act' where the band perform cover songs as the Orange Tree Boys. Orange Tree Boys setlist: [intro] Sharp Dressed Man [ZZ Top cover] [unknown; possibly titled 'Tragedy...

The noisy prog rock weirdos behind black midi released one of the year's most critically acclaimed albums, Cavalcade , in May. Amazingly, though, they're already running their way through new songs, playing as many as five unreleased tracks as part of a Pitchfork festival set. A 75-minute show in London under the V∞redoms name; five similar pieces (the last one an encore) to the usual ones played but for a very exciting ending to the first and a bleepy keyboard finale.

The first of two nights in Glasgow, this project was played under the name V∞redoms and features the percussive, spacey vibe that Yamataka Eye and co. would pursue through the 2000s. Three drummers, Eye on electronics and sharing vocal duties with Yoshimi P-We, this (incomplete) set was broadcast in stunning quality on the BBC and is probably the most clear recording imaginable.

Despite the Japanese-sounding name, Yamantaka // Sonic Titan are a Canadian experimental band, and the group got a slot as the opening act for Acid Mothers Temple on the latter's 2019 tour. Good, although quieter, recording of a show from Eugene; nine untitled tracks.
